Cerro de Sol / Mountain of sun

Roberto, a young Indigenous man from Oaxaca recounts his experience of being kidnapped in Ciudad Juarez, Mexico, and life after his escape.

TRT: 24 minutes. Spanish language, English subtitles.

This project was made in collaboration with DHIA(Derechos Humanos Integrales en Acción /Essential Human Rights in Action), a human rights organization in the border city of Ciudad Juárez, Mexico, with the support of the NYU Gallatin Global Fellowship in Human Rights.

Consent was central to the filming process, and I have a kept a close relationship with Roberto and his family throughout the editing and distribution process. My goal with the film is to increase awareness of the systemic violence at the border through a more intimate perspective, as well as raise money for Roberto and his family. While I do not believe one film can change the world, I hope that we can listen to Roberto, and reflect on how we can do more to stand in solidarity with our migrant neighbors.
